PREMIER HORGAN: WE WANT RENT CONTROL THAT PROTECTS RENTERS
British Columbia’s laws do not protect the rights and interests of renters. Rents are rising faster than wages. Landlords are already making large profits from the value of property. Decent affordable housing is a human right that should not be abandoned just so landlords can increase their profits by increasing rents. BC needs meaningful rent control and reform to tenancy laws that prioritize the human rights of renters over the economic interest of property owners.

Tying rent control to the unit, not the tenant, so landlords can’t automatically increase rents when tenants move;
Requiring landlords to apply to the Residential Tenancy Branch before they can raise rents;
