The 1177 Tenants Collective formed just over a year ago to defend their homes against destruction. Their landlord, Andrzej Kowalski, tried and failed to convert their 7 homes into 4 luxury condos. Through banding together and community pressure we stopped the evictions.

Now, Mr. Kowalski is trying to evict Terry, the longest term tenant, claiming he wants to move in a caretaker for the 7 unit building. 

Terry has lived in the building for over 27 years, a botanist with friendly cats and a plethora of plants. In his retirement, he still keeps busy identifying and studying rare mosses. Every neighbour knows Terry — the friendly scientist with a million stories to tell. They know him as someone who will walk their dog, invite everyone up on the deck, or fight alongside them to save their homes.

Every unit in the building has signed a letter to the landlord asserting that they do not want or need a caretaker and that they demand that Kowalski drop Terry’s eviction.
